Fleshgrinder
2014
intaglio print
9x9in.
By this time I’d already started working on the machine concepts but was still interested in my classic ideas and this print is a result of merging the two. This is also one of my first experiments with aquatint and sugar lift. I wanted the print to have a surrealist feel similar to A Dying Demon where elements in the foreground and background mold into one, such as the center of the gear acting as the skull’s eye. As the gear turns it’s being turned into flesh and dripping from the inhuman skull and foreshadows the transition from my original concepts to current; from flesh, bone, to machine.
