We use our personal devices so much because each time we press a key or tap screen our brains releases small amounts of endorphins. To get more of this “feel-good” chemical, we stay plugged in to our devices to get more. We unintentionally become jacked-in to a dispensary form of ecstasy and changing our regular behavior. The humanoid figures are people changed into something recognizable because of their addiction to their device. This change is also alluded to in the background’s gradation.
