Soulscreacher II: What Your Angels Are Really Up To

The sequel to Soulscreacher. Again, this angel is shrouded in darkness but this time I wanted to take full advantage of the renaissance-inspired halo and use these colors throughout the entire work; from the more detailed halo, the light casting from gates of Heaven, to his single gold tooth. In making this piece I was thinking about exactly why this angel was cast from Heaven. “He already has a halo so that means this figure was in Heaven to begin with. He or she is trying to return, so why were they banished?” Instead of retelling the story of Lucifer being cast from Heaven, I wanted to elaborate on my ideas of our changing culture and what it means to be “good,” as reference in Little Black Halo and For the Disrespected… This individual may not have necessarily be “bad,” but may only have a different opinion than his or her community, therefore this work discusses the idea that the majority will always be able to justify their actions, however wrong, as long as there of more of them than another.
